Put an item on your public Catalog
Choose whether one item is listed, reachable by link only, or not public at all.
Updated 22 October 2026
Every item carries its own answer to one question: may customers reach this, and should it appear in the Catalog listing? Set this in the item's Public Catalog section.
The three choices
- Hidden from customers — nobody outside your workspace can open it. This is where every item starts.
- Only by direct link — it has a working page, but it isn't in the listing and search engines are asked to leave it out. Use it when you want to send someone the item's link.
- Shown in Catalog — it appears in the Catalog for anyone browsing who is allowed to see it.
Position in Catalog decides where a listed item sits among the others. Lower numbers come first.
Set it
- Open the item in Catalog.
- Find Public Catalog.
- Choose the Catalog visibility you want, set a Position in Catalog, and choose Save Catalog settings.
Placement saves on its own, separately from the rest of the item — you don't have to save the item again.
Placement is only half of it
An item set to Shown in Catalog still needs a published version before anyone can open it. Saving an item keeps your work as a draft; it's publishing that gives the public something to read. An item set to Shown in Catalog with nothing published is simply missing from the Catalog, with no error anywhere.
The reverse is just as true: publishing an item does not put it on the Catalog. Both have to be done.
Changing your mind
Set an item back to Hidden from customers and its page stops answering straight away. Orders and anything a customer already holds are untouched — you're closing the shop window, not undoing the sale.
When Catalog visibility won't save
You don't have permission to publish. Any choice other than Hidden from customers changes what the public can reach, so setting one — or changing one that's already set — needs it. Editing the item itself doesn't.
It changed in another session. If someone else set the placement while your screen was open, we won't overwrite them — load the latest and choose again.
Your Catalog is called Shop or Store. Those two titles promise everything on the Catalog is for sale, so an item you can't buy can't be Shown in Catalog alongside them. Rename the Catalog, or choose Only by direct link.
