Segments
Where you can use a segment
Send to it, hold part of a Catalog item back for it, start a Journey from it, or just look at who's in it.
Updated 22 October 2026
Save an audience and other parts of Qcom can ask for it by name.
Send a campaign to it
From the segment's row, choose Send them a campaign — the composer opens with that audience already chosen. Or start a campaign and set Send to yourself: everyone, or one of your saved segments.
Two things narrow it further in the same panel. Do not send to takes another segment back out, which is how you reach *new customers except the ones on the welcome run*. Must have tags and Exclude tags filter what's left.
Being in the segment isn't quite the same as being sent to. Someone whose address has bounced can sit in a segment and still be left out of the send.
Decide who can see part of a Catalog item
On a button, document, image or FAQ, Only for people in a segment holds it back for the people you choose. Being in any one of the chosen segments is enough.
That check reads the segment at the moment the customer looks, so someone who has since dropped out of the rules stops seeing it. Eligibility can only narrow what the item already allows — it never lets someone in who the item's audience shut out. See Who can see and hold a Catalog item.
Start a Journey
A Journey can be set to start when someone enters or leaves a segment.
Both kinds count. For a rules-based segment, entering means they started matching the rules — the customer who has just paid for the first time. For a hand-picked group, entering means somebody put them in it, and leaving means somebody took them out.
The membership change is the trigger, rather than simply being in the list. Somebody already in a segment when you connect a Journey is not enrolled just by being re-checked; adding an existing group member again creates no new entry. The Journey must be published and allow that contact to enter under its audience and repeat-entry settings. Inspect its enrollment or run history separately.
Look at who's actually in it
- See who's in it on the segment's row lists the people, if you have access to contacts.
- Open in Contacts takes the same list into your contact list, where the All Segments filter also lets you pick any segment.
- A contact's own profile has a Segments section, so you can start from the person instead of the audience.
Deleting one that's in use
Before deletion, Qcom checks for recorded campaign and Catalog references and names the ones it finds. Review those settings before confirming. Published Journeys keep the rules saved in their published version; deleting a segment does not rewrite an existing run. Review new Journey setup separately.
Pay particular attention to Do not send to: removing an exclusion can change who a campaign may reach. A missing eligibility segment can also block access to Catalog content. Update the affected settings and review the resulting audience or access before using them.
Delete anyway removes the segment despite the warning; it does not repair those settings. Prefer changing the references first. After any uncertain result, reopen the list before repeating deletion. For missing members or unavailable counts, continue with Why someone isn't in a segment.
