Top up your credit balance

Add funds that cover usage past your plan limits, and decide which channels are allowed to spend them.

Updated 22 October 2026

Your credit balance is money held on your account that covers usage past your plan limits — so a busy week doesn't stop your messages going out.

How it works

  • Your balance sits on the Credit balance card at Settings → Billing → Overview.
  • Credit is spent only when a channel has already used up what your plan includes and any packs you've bought.
  • Each channel has its own Wallet overage switch on the Usage packs page. When it's off, that channel stops at its cap instead of drawing on your balance.

Credit is not a subscription payment. Spending it is a drawdown from money you've already paid, which is why it shows as Usage · Tax-free in your billing history.

Add funds

  1. Open Settings → Billing → Overview.
  2. On the Credit balance card, choose Add funds.
  3. Pick one of the suggested amounts, or type your own under Or enter an amount.
  4. Pay by card or mobile money.

The smallest top-up is GHS 1. Before you confirm, the dialog shows the total you'll actually be charged, including Ghana taxes and levies of roughly 21% — the balance added to your account is the amount you chose.

If you're paying by mobile money you'll get a prompt on your phone to approve. Approve it there and the balance updates once the payment clears.

Credit or a usage pack

They solve different problems, and you can use both.

  • Credit is flexible. Any channel you've allowed can draw on it, at ordinary rates.
  • A usage pack is prepaid capacity for one channel, bought ahead of a busy period, and is used before your credit is touched.

Buy pack on the Credit balance card takes you straight to the packs page.

When it doesn't happen

  • A channel stopped even though you have credit. Its Wallet overage switch is off, so it's stopping at its cap by design. Turn it on.
  • Your balance didn't go up. A mobile money payment isn't complete until you approve the prompt on your phone. Check your billing history for the payment.
  • The amount was rejected. Top-ups start at GHS 1, and a single top-up has an upper limit — split a very large amount across more than one.
  • You were charged more than you added. The extra is Ghana taxes and levies on the payment, shown in the dialog before you confirm.
  • A send was blocked and credit didn't help. Credit covers capacity, not permission. A sender, domain or template still awaiting approval blocks the send whatever your balance is.
  • Manage usage packs
  • Read your usage page
  • Billing details and payment methods
  • Your plan and what it includes
