Create an automation

Create a journey or operations draft, then finish its trigger and actions in the visual builder.

Updated 22 October 2026

Automation creation creates a draft and opens the visual builder. Nothing runs until the automation is complete and published.

Choose a starting point

  • Start blank opens an empty canvas.
  • Use a template copies a purpose-based starter that you can edit.

Journeys focus on customer movement. Operations workflows focus on internal work. New Journey and New workflow are the two buttons on Automations, and both need the Scale plan. See Build a journey and Build an operations workflow.

Finish in the builder

Add or edit the trigger, conditions, actions, messages, waits, and exit rules in the builder. Bots are different from journeys and operations flows: a bot is bound to a conversation channel and does not use a separate trigger.

Common problems

  • The draft has no name.
  • A template was selected but not chosen.
  • The automation is saved but not published.
  • A journey has no valid trigger.
  • A bot step is incomplete or has an unconnected required route.
  • Choose what starts an automation
  • Build a bot on the canvas
  • Create a bot
  • Use workspace wizards
